If you’re counting down the days till your next job interview, these helpful hints will help develop the right mindset and focus on the most important aspects of the interview so that you leave a positive impression.
Research
All interviews will be different, due to a range of curriculum’s, demographic of student and differing locations, though there are some questions that you can almost guarantee will appear, largely associated with your transition to a new environment and strategies surrounding EAL. It is also beneficial prepare answers to some of the most common interview questions, explaining why you would be the best person for the job and your initial understanding of the school. It is also worthwhile listing your personal ethos, strategies and values so that you are able present the best version yourself and the most significant contribution you can make to the school. Also, take the time to research and develop a broader view of education in the region as a whole so that you converse with confidence.
Presentation
Appearances shouldn’t matter, but the fact is that we are often judged before we utter a word in all walks of life. The vast majority of interviews organised by the consultancy will be by video or for locally based candidates, physically,, and it is important to make a great first impression. Take time to ensure you appear professional and motivated, your clothes are both formal and well fitted, and any accessories you may wear are subtle. Dressing one level above the job you’re applying for shows a desire to succeed.
Stay Calm
Whether it be planning your route for a school visit, or simply ensuring that your camera is best placed for a video interview to take place, it is important to begin the interview feeling as well prepared as possible. Good preparation is the key to staying in control. It is important to speak clearly, maintain a healthy balance to the conversation, smile, and remain calm. Remember that your attendance at interview is due to selection. It could be just as nerve racking for the interviewer as it is you; After all, they are normal people too.
