The Opportunity (Life in Shanghai)
Shanghai is one of the most popular destinations for ex-pats and travellers. With its excellent infrastructure and diverse attractions, this vibrant city offers an unforgettable experience to those who visit.
Shanghai, China’s largest city and one of the world’s busiest ports, is a top financial centre and shopping paradise. It is also renowned for its historical landmarks such as The Bund, City God Temple, and Yu Garden, as well as the extensive Lujiazui skyline and major museums including the Shanghai Museum and the China Art Museum. Situated in east China on the estuary of the Yangtze River.
Shanghai boasts an astounding variety of scenery: skyscrapers in Pudong stand tall above historical gardens in the Old Town, while luxury hotels sit next to Shikumen houses.
Though Shanghai has been around since 635 BC (the same year Confucius was born), it didn’t really become prominent until 150 years ago when Western nations began establishing businesses there for trade purposes. Nowadays, more than 20 million people call this incredible city home.
Despite being financially oriented, Shanghai is one of China’s most liveable cities. From franchised fast food restaurants to Michelin-starred restaurants, from pleasant riverside walks to cool beer bars, from fashion boutiques to ancient architecture, from fascinating local customs to modern convenience—you can find almost everything there.
